Stripers are biting early in the morning on topwater plugs. I am cruising the lower end of Lake Hickory looking for surface feeding schools. When I spot them I approach quickly and make long casts to the surface feeders.

The minnow seller at the dock said the crappie were starting to bite, but I didn't catch any. Started fishing at 2 feet and went down to 10 feet. Gave up. Got out the worms and put a mess(20)of bream/bluegill in the boat just so the old lady would believe me when I tell her I went fishin. As for the 12 cent minnows, caught one white bass, one 10 inch largemouth, and a coontail. The coontail put up the best fight. Fished from 4:30 till 8:30. Fishin was better the further down the lake that I went. Plan on trying Rhodhiss when it warms up. If anybody can give me a tip on catching crappies, I'm all ears.

My annual trip to topsail Island to do some pier fishing was a real success. We fished at The Jolly Roger Pier and had a great time as usual.My father and I caught at least a couple hundred bluefish Sunday and Monday. The highlight of the trip was the Spanish Mackeral run both days. We hooked numerous Spanish and put nine of them in our bucket. All good sized keepers, we did not have to measure any of them.
